Gintama Set For ANZ Release After Smashing Japanese Box Office

After smashing the Japanese Box Office with reported earnings of billion yen ($21.8 million NZD) to become the highest grossing live-action film so far this year, Gintama is set to release in Australia and New Zealand on August 17.

Created by Sorachi, the Gintama manga made its debut in December 2003 and has since remained one of the top-ranked manga world-wide, with sixty-eight volumes been published so far. The live-adaptation, based on the long-running series, is set in an alternate Edo-period where aliens have taken over the world. A young hero named Gintoki leads the story as the freelance samurai who does odd jobs for rent money. But, when the hero becomes entangled with one of the planet’s alien invaders, he finds himself thrown into one hilarious episodic adventure. Written and directed by Yuichi Fukuda (“Hentai Kamen” series), the feature film from Warner Bros. and Gaga Films, boasts an all-star cast headed by Shun Oguri, one of the most acknowledged actors in
Japan.

Presented by Warner Bros and Gaga Corporation, Cine Asia will distribute GINTAMA through Event, Greater Union, Birch Carrol & Coyle, HOYTS and leading independent cinemas across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth plus Auckland and Christchurch from August 17, 2017.
