Ballerina: The John Wick Spin-Off Unveils an Action-Packed Trailer

The John Wick franchise, which first hit screens in 2014, is set to expand with its first-ever spin-off. Titled Ballerina, the film introduces a new protagonist, shifting the focus away from Keanu Reeves’ legendary assassin. To build anticipation, a brand-new trailer has just been released, offering a glimpse into the action that awaits.

A Spin-Off That Raises Concerns Despite Its Star-Studded Cast

Leading the film is Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049, No Time to Die), who steps into the role of Eve Macarro—an ex-ballet dancer turned assassin on a relentless quest for revenge.

In a move sure to excite fans, Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick in Ballerina, albeit likely in a brief appearance. The story takes place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, ensuring continuity within the established universe. Alongside Reeves, the late Lance Riddick and Ian McShane return, with McShane once again portraying Winston, the enigmatic manager of The Continental.

New faces also join the franchise, including Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) in a still-undisclosed role. Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and David Castañeda round out the ensemble, promising a diverse mix of characters.

Behind-the-Scenes Challenges and Uncertain Reception

Originally helmed by Len Wiseman (Underworld), Ballerina reportedly underwent extensive reshoots led by Chad Stahelski, the director behind John Wick: Chapter 2, 3, and 4.

Months ago, reports surfaced suggesting that early test screenings received largely negative feedback. These troubling whispers have raised concerns that Ballerina might not live up to the high standards set by the John Wick series. Given that the franchise has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, a misstep could pose a risk to its continued success. However, the extent of the changes Stahelski has made remains unclear.

Audiences will have to wait until June to see if Ballerina delivers on its promise. The film is set for theatrical release on June 4.
