Female Kiwi Wrestler Toni Storm to Appear in WWE’s Mae Young Classic
Announced just this morning, WWE will be holding their first ever Mae Young Classic Women’s Tournament and New Zealand’s own, Toni Storm has been confirmed as a competitor in the tournament.
The Mae Young Classic is going to be available exclusively on the WWE Network starting on Tuesday 29 August (NZT) with the first four episodes available on demand from that date. Episodes 5 through 8 will be available from Tuesday 5 September (NZT) with the finale streamed live from Las Vegas, TWednesday 13 September at 5PM (NZT).
Legendary WWE Hall-of-Fame announcer Jim Ross is set to call the action alongside four-time Women’s Champion and Hall of Famer, Lita. Named after the one of a kind pioneering female Wrestler, Mae Young the Mae Young Classic will showcase 32 of the best up and coming female wrestlers from around the world in a single-elimination tournament.
“The Mae Young Classic is a unique and exclusive offering for WWE Network subscribers and further highlights our on-going commitment to the ‘women’s evolution’ in sports and entertainment,” said Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President, Talent, Live Events and Creative. “It’s a privilege to showcase these talented women from around the world and to provide them with an opportunity to shine before a global audience on WWE Network.”
Competitors announced thus far include Toni Storm from New Zealand; Princesa Sugehit from Mexico; Lacey Evans, Sarah Logan, Tessa Blanchard, and Abbey Laith from the United States; Kavita Devi from India; Jazzy Gabert from Germany; and Taynara Conti from Brazil.
