John Lithgow in Talks to Play Dumbledore in New Harry Potter Series

The upcoming Harry Potter series adaptation may have found its new Dumbledore. According to Deadline, actor John Lithgow is currently in negotiations to take on the role of the beloved Hogwarts headmaster. However, the deal has yet to be officially confirmed.

Lithgow is best known for his roles in 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Crown, and Dexter. If cast, he would follow in the footsteps of Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, who previously portrayed the iconic character in the film franchise.

The search for the perfect cast has been generating buzz, with several high-profile names reportedly in contention for key roles. Gangs of London star Paapa Essiedu is rumoured to be in talks to play Professor Snape, while Ted Lasso actor Brett Goldstein is said to be a candidate for the role of Hagrid. Meanwhile, Bad Sisters star Sharon Horgan has been linked to the role of Professor McGonagall.

There has also been speculation that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge could take on the role of Petunia Dursley, Harry Potter’s strict and magic-averse aunt.

The series is being developed for the US streaming service Max and aims to adapt the original books over seven seasons, with each season expected to cover one novel. Francesca Gardiner has been brought on as showrunner, while Mark Mylod is set to direct.

With casting still in progress, fans eagerly await official announcements as the production moves forward.
